YOUNG AND OLD ARE FEELING FESTIVE TOGETHER IN PENCOED

Pupils from Pencoed Primary School have been busy entertaining the elderly residents of Glanffrwd Care Home as two generations of the same community enjoy time together.

Pupils have been spending time with residents getting ready for Christmas. Activities have included making Christmas hats, singing and decorating biscuits.  Sponsored by Payton Jewell Caines, the initiative is part of Pencoed Primary School’s family engagement programme that sees pupils and their parents visiting local care home Glanffrwdon a weekly basis.

Julie Jenkins of Pencoed Primary explains: “The children have the most powerful life experience whilst residents benefit from their laughter and excitement. Both generations are coming together through their sense of belonging, teaching each other about their lives by sharing stories and ideas. It really is wonderful.”

Helen John of Payton Jewell Caines adds: “This brilliant family engagement programme is a real credit to the staff and pupils at Pencoed Primary. It has been a real honor for us to support the initiatives and spend time with the pupils and residents as part of our community work. We wish them all a very happy Christmas.”

Situated in Pencoed, Glanffrwd Care Home is a purpose built 44 bedded care home offering Residential and Nursing care. It is run by HC-One, the largest independent care home operator in the UK.
